This is a pivotal role that represents specialised training and investment by the Northpower business to meet the growing technology and infrastructure demands of all power networks across New Zealand.

The role

Reporting to the Technical Field Manager, you'll be responsible for planning & executing the zone substation maintenance delivery in Auckland and associated repair works.

You will see to the safety & compliance of office and field staff, also supervise up to 10 team members comfortably on routine maintenance tasks and a variety of smaller capital works.

You will assign and manage resources to deliver the yearly maintenance works on the Vector network.

  • Based in Auckland you will also:
  • Deliver high quality work over a period of time in small capital projects, asset replacements and technical maintenance works
  • Be able to read and understand substation drawings and resolve substation faults
  • Install and maintain HV and LV equipment
  • Support project and delivery managers with the planning and duration of works
  • Provide primary and secondary testing of substation assets and quality test reports
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to drive team performance and ensure both office and field staff are getting training and development as needed
  • Be mindful, be present, be safe for yourself, workmates, customers, the public, networks and the environment
  • Assess situations for the safety of yourself and your team members achieving 100% compliance with HSQE requirements

About you

To be successful in this role you will display strong people skills, customer focus and lead within a high-performing team.

You will be able to manage challenging situations in a calm, mature manner and role model safety, quality guidelines consistently according to best practice.

We're looking for an individual who can further demonstrate the following:

  • EWRB registered electrician/electrical fitter License or mutually recognized equivalent
  • Have at least 10 years' experience in the electrical industry with a minimum of 5 years in the substation environment with good technical expertise across the entire electrical industry
  • Hold applicable work type competency ( WTC) and being flexible to working situations
  • Ability to motivate, mentor and lead demonstrating integrity and trust
  • Initiative and commitment to manage critical risks
  • Knowledge of HSE requirements and ability to proactively promote a safety culture in line with legislation and company procedures ; deliver positive outcomes without compromising Health, Safety, Quality and the Environment (HSQE)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proven ability to build, maintain relationships in a multicultural environment and work as a collaborator
  • A strategic and critical thinker with the ability to solve problems and make decisions
  • Enjoy working in team environments, yet able to work selfdirected
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Full clean Driver Licence
