About the role

Key responsibilities will include:


  • Lead the planning, development and updates of Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) Fleet Asset Management Plans to achieve the required value for the life of assets.
  • Lead and influence stakeholders throughout the Maritime Enterprise Sustainment Team (MEST) and New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) to achieve the required engagement for the purpose of producing high quality Asset Management Plans.
  • Lead the development of failure/opportunity/impact/likelihood risk statements and controls for those captured and tracked in the Asset Risk register.
  • Prepare and present information to a range of stakeholders, in written and oral formats.
  • Contribute to the accuracy of technical and financial source data though influencing quality in processes and systems.
  • Lead quality assessments of the Asset Risk process through reviews of the effectiveness of controls within the Asset Risk register.
  • Plan, deliver and monitor team activity scope, ensuring requirements are delivered to time, quality and cost.
  • Ensure their team are familiar with and comply to statutory regulations associated with the design, supply, support and disposal of products in accordance with the relevant state/territory of the customer/user.
  • Contribute to succession planning and talent management, including the technical and professional development of team members, to enable a sustainable engineering and technical capability.

About you
You're an experienced Engineering team lead in a Navy / Marine industry with a qualification in a related discipline.

You have a demonstrated understanding of applicable engineering toolsets (eg:
PLM or MRP systems, design, simulation and analysis software). You hold a foundation, preferably practitioner, level knowledge / certification in asset management.


You have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal with the ability to influence outcomes.

You are task focused, working with guidance as opposed to direction with the ability to use initiative and prioritise workloads.

You have experience with performance management, mentoring junior members of the engineering team and stakeholder engagement.

Your demonstrated experience in a similar role is essential in ensuring the life cycle management of Navy assets.
