Description

We are the Financial Markets Authority - Te Mana Tā
tai Hokohoko
Our team is motivated to help achieve fair outcomes for New Zealand investors. To do this, we influence, monitor, educate and develop the investment management sector.

The investment management sector includes fund managers (including KiwiSaver funds), discretionary investment management service providers (DIMS), derivatives issuers, crowd funding and peer to peer service providers, and custodians.

Our sectors are incredibly important for the financial well-being of New Zealanders.

Our remits include the managed fund sector with $186 of funds under management and the DIMS sector with $42 billion of funds under management.

The Role - Te Tūranga

As an Adviser or Senior Adviser you'll be lending your knowledge of policy, regulatory experience or the financial services industry to help improve the experience of investors and the capability of the FMA.

You'll be working on big projects that "raise the bar" as well as supporting other parts of the FMA to promote and facilitate the development of fair, efficient, and transparent managed funds.

Right now, we're working on improving value for money for investments, ensuring fund managers' business models and risk-management capabilities work for investors, and looking to the horizon for ways to promote sector growth while improving risk management practices.

As well as developing an improving the investment management sector, we also have a role in monitoring and engaging with market participants to identify issues and resolve often novel problems.

We have a wide scope of interesting projects requiring great problem-solving abilities and no two days are the same.

As a specialist in investments, compliance, or regulation, you will make key contributions to the team's work to improve investor outcomes.

This position will allow you to work closely with other teams across the FMA as well as giving you the opportunity to engage directly with market participants, supervisors and industry associations.

You'll be helping us analyse novel issues in the industry, develop effective solutions and implement improvements in a fair and consistent way.

About you - Ō pūkenga

For both the Adviser and Senior Adviser roles, we are looking for someone who is curious, enthusiastic, analytical, and keen to learn.

This is not a "BAU" role - you can expect to be working on a variety of work where you will be engaged, challenged and adaptive to situations where the answer isn't clear-cut.

Ideally, you'll have experience working in any of the investment management sectors that we regulate in roles such as compliance, risk, legal, product management, analyst, or research.

We would also be keen on hearing from you if you have experience in auditing, consulting, or advising to any of our investment management sectors or if you have relevant experience from a previous regulatory or policy role.

To effectively influence, monitor, and educate, we will need you to have good verbal and written skills so can you articulate complex legal or industry jargon to a variety of stakeholders.

This can be anywhere from answering a complaint to writing guidance to the market.

The difference between the Adviser and Senior Adviser Role is the Senior Adviser is expected to lead thematic projects, support the development of other team members and have a deeper set of skills and experiences.
