WILDLANDS IS LOOKING FOR AN ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION SUPERVISOR TO JOIN OUR TAURANGA TEAM, BASED IN TAURIKO.
Wildland Consultants Ltd is a progressive consultancy specialising in ecology, biodiversity and ecological restoration. The company has offices throughout New Zealand and a nation-wide client base.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:


We are looking for a supervisor who has at least 2-3 years' experience as a restoration field team leader or similar, or is currently supervising ecological restoration works.

It is essential that you are able to communicate effectively to staff and clients, work efficiently, and have excellent planning and problem-solving skills.

This role is approximately 50% office and 50% field based.

It requires visits to prospective and ongoing ecological restoration sites throughout Tauranga, quoting for new work, auditing, monitoring, and on the ground supervision and mentoring of restoration teams carrying out physical works by working alongside and leading by example.

The work will also require the use of agrichemicals (herbicides), pest animal toxins (poisons), and traps.


Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • A degree, post graduate or masters in conservation, horticultural, ecology, environmental or earth sciences.
  • Leadership skills including the ability to mentor and train existing and new staff.
  • A genuine interest in working in the outdoors and achieving restoration goals.
  • Knowledge of native and nonnative flora and fauna of New Zealand, and pest animal control methods. Ideally, experience within this realm as well.
  • Experience in project management, implementation and reporting.
  • Experience in staff management, including mentoring and training
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent decision making and problemsolving skills.
  • Possess a good work ethic, and is Health and Safety conscious.
  • Report writing and computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel and GPS/mapping software).
  • An understanding of and experience using handheld devices (e.g., mobile phone, tablets, GPS).
  • A good level of fitness, as the role will require field work and site visits in a range of environments and terrain.
  • A full NZ drivers' licence and ability to drive a manual vehicle, ideally with experience towing a trailer.

Preferred applicants will:


  • Hold current relevant qualifications such as Growsafe (Standard or Registered Chemical Applicator), First Aid, SiteSafe (or similar), Chainsaw, 4WD, and Control Substances Licence (CSL).
  • Have energy and enthusiasm to motivate and influence great teams.
  • Have staff management experience.
  • Delivered projects in the past and is happy to share learnings with others.
