Description
Ko mātou tēnei | Who we are

Te Komihana Tauhokohoko | The Commerce Commission is Aotearoa New Zealand's competition, fair trading, consumer credit and economic regulatory agency.

Our mission is to make New Zealanders better off by ensuring our markets work well and consumers and businesses are confident participants in those markets.

We are seeking expressions of interest from analysts at all levels - Assistant Analyst, Analyst, Senior Analyst - to join our Market Regulation branch.

We have a range of permanent and fixed term opportunities, based in our either Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) office or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) office.

The Market Regulation Branch is responsible for improving competition outcomes in our regulated markets.

We have Analyst opportunities at all levels across all of our teams - telecommunications, fuel, dairy, retail payment systems and grocery.

Mō te tūranga | About the role
Working as an Analyst in the Market Regulation branch no two days are the same.

You will have the opportunity to showcase your analysis skills which could vary from qualitative and quantitative analysis to economic and legal analysis as well as policy and engagement work.

This is a role with true variety where your work directly impacts everyday New Zealanders.

In a nutshell, you'll work on multiple projects within multi-disciplinary teams made up of lawyers, economists, project managers and technical specialists.

You'll gather and critically analyse information, identify key issues, draw logical conclusions, develop solutions and help present these back to our decision makers.

He kōrero mōu | About you
A valued team player, you'll be experienced working in a fast-paced environment and bring a proactive and solutions-focused approach. You'll be able to think, write and communicate clearly and offer sound critical thinking skills. You'll also be comfortable presenting to stakeholders at all levels.

Ideally you'll have experience or knowledge of the following:

  • the ability to prioritise, focus on high value outputs and resolve challenging problems
- relationship management skills
- policy or regulatory experience
- the ability to understand accounting and economic principles and interpret legislation.

A university degree in an analytical field (e.g. accounting, commerce, law, science, or statistics) would be an advantage but is not essential.

We know that a diverse team with a range of life and work experiences enables high performance and innovation.

If you're excited about this role and think you have what it takes, but your experience doesn't align 100%, we still want to hear from you and would encourage you to apply.
