Intelligence Supervisor, Te Tari Pūreke - Firearms Safety Authority

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The purpose of Te Tari Pūreke, Firearms Safety Authority business unit is to enable New Zealand to be a world leader in arms safety through an effective regulatory and administrative approach to the Arms Act and Arms Regulations.

Established to lead, operate, and develop investment in modernisation of the firearms system, which will result in a more efficient and effective risk-based licensing system, and shall improve public confidence in the firearms licensing system.

The modernisation of the Arms Regulatory System will take every opportunity to prevent harm through transparent, high quality, consistent, legislatively correct, and effective regulatory activities.

This will also cover world leading administration, education, and promotion of compliance within the provisions of the Arms Act and Arms Regulations.

You will support the delivery of these outcomes by building and leading a team of Intelligence professionals to deliver high-quality Intelligence products to support strategic, operational and tactical decision-making.

You will lead the development and embedding of processes and Intelligence outputs with a collaborative mindset to ensure your team are linked in with other key areas of Te Tari Pūreke and the wider Police Intelligence community.

You will lead your team to produce a variety of outputs focused on areas of high-risk, trends and emerging risks, within our regulatory system while also maintaining oversight of the overall firearms environment.

You will be driven to seek opportunities for continuous improvement in your team's output.

You will proactively engage with others to understand shared priorities and lead your team to deliver suitable Intelligence products to support these.

You will effectively manage your own time and your team's workload.

This position would suit an experienced Intelligence professional wanting to lead a team in a dynamic operational environment. You will be passionate about leading, supporting and motivating your team, to foster a high-performing team. You will demonstrate a positive, open mindset and be innovate and solutions-focused in your thinking. Good interpersonal skills and effective relationship building skills are essential.

  • Effectively lead your team to develop and embed processes and Intelligence outputs to meet business needs.
  • Manage competing priorities and demands, enabling your team to deliver highquality, timely Intelligence products.
  • Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external).
  • Lead by example with a committed, positive attitude towards team and personal development.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Build a new team of Intelligence professionals, providing positive leadership and direction.

Qualifications / Requirements:


  • Applicants need to be New Zealand Permanent Residents
  • NZ Diploma in Intelligence Analysis (NZDIA), or equivalent, is preferred but not mandatory
