- 0.1 classroom release for Provision Lead role
Looking for a role with small class sizes, where we pay for your postgraduate study and you have 0.4 release time to study, where you will be supported by teacher aides, communicators/ interpreters and other educational experts? We will also support you to learn NZSL.
You do not need any experience in a specialist school, although experience with Students who are DHH would be a bonus - we can support you to grow your practice in this area.
ABOUT US / MŌ MĀTOU
Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand is a Specialist School for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students. We have a focus on growth, learning and collaboration.
You will be joining a nationwide team and you will share their passion and enthusiasm for delivering high quality education and services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and the whānau we support.
We have 12 provisions (satellite teams) based in primary and secondary schools in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.THE ROLE / TE MAHI
We are seeking a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or an experienced NZ registered classroom teacher who has in-depth understanding of the NZ Curriculum and assessment tools.
This role also entails leading the Deaf bilingual provision, having oversight of teachers and teacher aides, along with our students and ensuring the provision is effectively managed to support the students with their emotional and academic achievements.
In this role:
- Our class sizes are small, ranging from 7 students per class group
- You will be a teacher with the right skills and attitude who can work with a range of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across all communication modes (including New Zealand Sign Language and spoken English) and in varying learning contexts. We will help you learn NZSL if needed
- You will work within a Deaf Provision Teaching Team, which includes Teachers and Teacher Aides of the Deaf, with access to other specialists as required
- An opportunity to team teach with another experienced Teacher of the Deaf
- Your strong knowledge of the NZ Curriculum means you will have the ability to adapt the curriculum to primarily focus on Literacy and Numeracy with our young students
- Strong classroom management skills, and knowledge of planning for students' individual needs
Applications will be considered from teachers with recent knowledge and understanding of the core business of lifting student achievement and wellbeing.
If you are successful:
- We have study grants available, allowing you to complete postgraduate qualifications, taking you to the Q3+ salary scale. 0.4 release is provided while you are studying for 2 years
- Once you have completed your postgraduate qualifications in Specialist Teaching (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) you receive a Sign Language Allowance (SLA)
- An additional MU will be provided for being Provision Lead
- You will have the opportunities to meet other staff and students across the country
