The Role


Based in their Christchurch Support Office and reporting to the Head of Operations (based in Auckland), your role is accountable for resolving and pro-actively administering Level 2 & 3 Field Engineering support to users and attending to technical issues across the South Island.


You will be accountable for monitoring and validating the group's compliance with established security policies and procedures and maintaining an active quality control deliverable across third party service providers too.


Key to the role is your ability to maintain and update user and topology information, provide end user support, and take steps to maintain site security and data integrity functions of our client.

Day to day your role is a mix of BAU and Project related tasks.


Key Responsibilities


With 2900+ staff and some 35 locations, they need a dedicated Field Services Engineer to drive engagement to their 600/700 staff in the South Island.

Preferably, you have extensive Field Services experience. This is not an MSP role, yet the MSP experience would hold you in good stead for this position. Why you ask, well in essence, you are accustomed to supporting various technical challenges when you visit a site.

With 13-14 sites across the South Island, it's not unreasonable to be asked to fix a myriad of technical challenges.

Strengths in troubleshooting LAN/WAN issues particularly network access and connectivity is seen as essential.

You are a consummate IT Professional and can effective engage with a broad user base.


You are described as a safe set of hands, an active listener who users trust to provide a highly effective resolution within agreed SLA's.


In this role your responsibilities include:

  • Manage site servers, security solutions, network hardware and equipment.
  • Manage telecommunications infrastructure and development plans, projects, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, networks, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provisioning.
  • Provide site expertise, audit and support during system upgrades, new installations, conversions, and data maintenance.
  • Participate, suggest, and facilitate systems development, enhancement, and the integration of new with existing systems.
  • Work with IT Team to develop strategies and plans to enhance user services, improve user effectiveness, and foster innovation.
  • Communicate actively at all levels of management and users on information services and systems.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures and best practices, including providing written protocols and guidance to support staff, service providers and to endusers.
  • Ensure the creation and maintenance of all written technical documentation, including system and user manuals, license agreements, and documentation of modifications and upgrades.
  • Oversee provisioning of enduser services where required at site, including help desk and technical support services. This at times will involve some extensive travelling.
  • Keep current with the latest technologies and determine what new technology solutions and implementations will meet business and system requirements.

The Selection Criteria

Knowledge of:

  • Network Connectivity and Troubleshooting is seen as essential.
  • Any experience with Aruba & Unify equipment is beneficial.
  • Windows Server and VM's administration/troubleshooting skills highly beneficial.
  • Installing and supporting Switching, Hubs and Routers is seen as essential.
  • SD Wan experience is highly desirable.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology or related field is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to meet deadlines, to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products, and to take initiative in the development and completion of projects.
  • Selfdriven and works with minimum supervision having strong project execution skills, organizational and time management skills. Excellent problemsolving, analytical, and evaluative skills.
