McMillen Jacobs Associates is a full-service engineering firm in the transportation, heavy civil underground, water resources and hydropower markets.We are leading professionals in design and construction support services for underground tunnels and stations, deep shafts, large-diameter wastewater and water tunnels and pipelines, heavy rail, light rail, hydropower and water conveyance design, as well as construction claims and dispute resolution.
Currently serving clients with over 450 staff members from 21 offices located in Australia, New Zealand and North America, our technical skills include: geotechnical, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering; tunnel and underground project engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare civil and structural design calculations for tunnels, shafts, foundations, temporary excavation support systems and other types of underground structures
- Integrate contractor construction methodology with designs
- Track design progress versus timelines and budgets.
- Coordinate with engineers in solving complex, multidisciplinary design problems
- Write technical reports and other documents explaining the basis for designs or recommendations
- Participate in the QA/QC process for all completed design work prior to submittal to the client
- Leading and managing structural engineering tasks in accordance with scope, schedule, budget and procedures to ensure successful project completion.
- Direct and coordinate AutoCAD technicians on the proper display of plans, sections and details
- Participate in the quality verification process for calculations and designs prior to submittal to the client
- Occasionally visit project sites including sites under construction or carry out shortterm field assignments
- Provide technical guidance to junior staff members.
- Provide technical guidance and engineering support for construction activities
- Participate in business development and proposal preparations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Civil Engineering (curriculum emphasis in structural engineering) from an accredited university.
- Structural Engineer Position to have years tunnel or structural engineering design experience;
- Direct job experience or relevant coursework in structural analysis, solid mechanics, finite element analysis, structural dynamics, reinforced concrete design, steel design, and basic geotechnical engineering.
- Ability to work in a team environment to analyse problems and develop engineering solutions
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with some of the industry standard CAD and BIM software packages, including Autodesk suite (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and REVIT)
