Senior Software Engineer - Transactional Banking / Share Broking

At ASB, we're all about doing what we can to help our customers get "One Step Ahead" by giving them the tools they need to manage their lives and plans for their families and future.

Our products don't just serve ads or stream movies - they underpin our economy and touch people's lives.
If you've always wanted to apply your skills to a large-scale Kiwi success story, then today is your lucky day - as we are on the lookout for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in the Share broking squad within the Transactional Banking platform

The Transactional Banking platform is the heart of the bank providing all the cool online / real-time transactional services that power ASB.

Within our platform we have the Share broking squad - this squad owns numerous services including Spider, our platform to support our share trading activities, both locally with the NZX but also in foreign exchanges such as the ASX.

Mō te Tūranga | About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be part of a squad delivering and supporting a secure, functional and performant ecosystem to our Share trading customers.

You'll have the opportunity to get hands-on with some interesting and complex pieces of work on an enterprise scale, all while being part of a smaller squad where team members are empowered to make their own decisions - so your voice will be heard, and your opinions valued.

We advocate agile, fully cross-functional teams which will take you through all facets of engineering in any given day:

    • Building out and supporting our home-grown share trading application - Spider.
    • Migrating our legacy VB code to a new agreed architecture
    • Making our domain more consumable to our customers and colleagues by building new APIs while maintaining our existing integrations with in-house and third-party systems.
    • Automating CI/CD pipelines, building out monitoring, alerting and reporting capability and all the other cool stuff that makes building and supporting applications easier.
As our systems are mission critical this role will be included in the 24/7 on-call roster once suitably trained. Additional remuneration is included above the base salary for time spent on call.

We'll value your understanding of .Net development, willingness to make improvements to our tech stack, your proven initiative, problem solving abilities and leadership skills as we look for every engineer to lead from their position.

Above all else, we are looking for a desire to learn and grow.

We are looking for someone who has:

    • Good .NET development experience, preferably in an enterprise environment.
    • Integration experience: APIs, web services and/or messaging systems
    • Good experience with SQL and thorough understanding of database concepts
    • Experience with CI/CD tools like Azure Pipelines or similar
    • Knowledge of design patterns for scalability, performance, and reliability
    • Thorough understanding of best practice standards in code development, quality, and technical design
    • Experience in system maintenance and administration
    • Soft skills: the ability to gather requirements and present solutions to stakeholders when needed

Any of the following would be a bonus:

    • Experience working with VB6
    • Any experience on a share broking systems or other trading-related domain
    • Messaging systems such as Kafka
    • Experience with the ELK stack (Elastic, Logstash, Kibana)
    • Experience with building ADO pipelines, Octopus deploy
