Job Description Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**We are on the hunt for an adviser to join our Research Services Transition Team.


The research function at the University is undergoing a transition to a fully integrated 'Hub and Spoke' operating model for delivery of research services.

The proposed model aims to unify strategic, policy, and operational aspects, with a central "Hub" providing expertise and local "Spokes" offering support within faculties and institutes.

This streamlined approach aims to enhance service effectiveness, improve engagement, and create a collaborative, efficient and impactful research environment in alignment with the university's strategic values and aspirations.


The Research Service Design Transition Team will support the transition of contracting, funds advisory and proposal development services from UniServices to the University.

The Research Services Transition Adviser will provide high-quality advisory support to the University and UniServices teams responsible for delivering contracting, funds advisory and proposal development services.

This will include supporting funder campaigns and undertaking quality assurance and compliance checks on research proposals to ensure funder requirements are met as required.


You will also:

  • Update all relevant internal and external documentation with new processes, contacts and branding.
  • Manage the process of updating the ResearchHub and other relevant sources to reflect the new model, including updating support material, exemplars, FAQs and other documentation.
  • Support the update and development of new induction, process and procedure resources.
This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week role on an 18-month contract. The salary range for this role is $68,600 - $84,700 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

  • Tertiary qualification.
  • Experience working in a large complex organisation and or research management experience within a public/government agency.
  • Experience or knowledge of significant research funds, such as the Health Research Council of New Zealand.
  • Experience working on standard academic projects or proposals.
  • Previous experience working in an administrative position.
  • Experience working with systems and databases.
  • Experience comprehending and communicating recommendations and proposal adjustments.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Outstanding planning and organisation skills.
  • Ability to work towards tight deadlines.
  • Stakeholder management ability to work through and with others.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • A continuous improvement mindset always looking for better ways to do things.
  • Proven computer skills in Microsoft Suite, i.e., Excel (to intermediate level), Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience in coordinating logistics and planning events and activities.
