    Description

    Company Description

    About us:

At WM New Zealand, we are the largest composter, the largest waste-to-energy provider and have the largest commercial electric fleet in New Zealand, all powered by electricity from waste. As a team, we are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to redirect, neutralise and use waste.

    Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a hands-on Compliance Coordinator to join our high-performing team in Tauranga.

    About the role

You will play a key role in driving compliance with HSEQ systems, improving risk management practices, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and sustainability.

This role combines field-level advisory support with coordination of key compliance activities to ensure we meet internal standards, legislative obligations, and customer expectations.

    • Provide guidance to managers and staff to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality legislation and the company's HSEQ Management System.
    • Conduct audits, inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are followed through to completion.
    • Develop, review, and maintain safety documentation such as SOPs, JSEAs, hazardous substances registers, and compliance records.
    • Coordinate and deliver site-based HSEQ training, toolbox talks, and committee meetings.
    • Liaise with regulatory bodies and third-party auditors and act as the primary contact for workplace incidents and injury case management.
    • Support the implementation of site emergency plans, business continuity plans, risk registers, and environmental management plans.
    • Promote and support sustainability initiatives aligned with the company's circular economy goals and environmental targets.

    Qualifications

    About you

As an ideal candidate you will have:

You're a safety-focused professional with practical experience in HSEQ or compliance roles. You enjoy working both independently and as part of a team to support safe work environments and ensure robust systems are in place. You are confident communicating across all levels of the business and thrive in dynamic, operational environments.

    • Strong working knowledge of HSEQ legislation, systems, and risk management processes.
    • Experience in safety audits, investigations, and development of corrective actions.
    • Excellent time management, organisational, and communication skills.
    • Ability to coach, train, and influence others in best practice safety behaviours.
    • Experience coordinating compliance and reporting tasks in operational or industrial settings.
    • Exemplary communication skills and the ability to deal at all organisational levels.
    • Current New Zealand driver's licence.

To succeed, at your disposal you will have your direct report support team and wider operational team that includes office administration, supervisors and a mix of company and contracted operators. In this role, you will also be part of the regional leadership team and a strong corporate business that is recognised as one of the industry leaders.

    Additional Information

What is in it for me?

We offer a very competitive package, and opportunities to further expand your career with New Zealand's largest waste collection company.
